Freelance & mobile hair & beauty insurance – Automatic Covers

Public Liability

Public Liability

£3 million or £5 million

Public liability insurance covers accidental bodily injury by you or your business and also covers third party property damage (damage to posessions or property belonging to a client or member of the public while you are practicing).

Our freelance and mobile policy provides:

  • A limit of indemnity of £3 million any one claim (£1 million for students)
  • An option to increase cover to £5 million any one claim (excluding students)
  • Cover whether you work from a salon, a clinic, from home or on a mobile basis
  • Cover to work anywhere in the United Kingdom, Channel Islands or the Isle of Man
  • Cover for temporary (up to 14 days) work abroad (excluding the USA/Canada)
  • Data Protection Act cover up to £250,000
  • Defective Premises Act cover up to £3 million (£1 million for Students)
  • Health & Safety at Work Act cover up to £100,000
  • Cover for accidental damage to employees’ and visitors’ personal belongings
  • Compensation for court attendance of up to £250 per day

If you supply a faulty product to a customer that causes an injury or damages their property, they may try to sue you. Even if you have not been negligent, you may still be held liable for damages and injuries suffered as a result of products that you use or supply.

Our freelance and mobile policy provides:

  • A limit of indemnity of £3 million for all claims each year (£1 million for students)
  • An option to increase cover to £5 million for all claims each year (excluding students)
  • Cover for products supplied whilst temporarily (up to 14 days) working abroad (excluding the USA/Canada)
  • Consumer Protection Act cover up to £100,000

This protects you against claims for injury or damage caused by the treatments you carry out. So if somebody suffers a reaction to a treatment you have carried out, you may be liable to pay compensation and this is where insurance cover is vital.

Our freelance and mobile policy provides:

  • A limit of indemnity of £3 million any one claim (£1 million for students)
  • Cover for injury to clients whilst carrying out treatments or providing treatment advice
  • Cover whether you work from a salon, a clinic, from home or on a mobile basis
  • Cover to work anywhere in the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man
  • Cover for temporary (up to 14 days) work abroad (excluding the USA/Canada)
  • Cover for a wide range of treatments included as standard
Financial Loss

£10,000 or £50,000

The public liability section of your policy will provide cover for third party injury and property damage caused by your negligence. But what if a client suffered a financial loss not caused by injury or property damage? Not a problem, we have included a valuable extension in our policies to ensure you are fully protected.

Also known as the Non–Injury Treatment Extension, your Salon Gold freelance policy will automatically provide cover if a client or member of the public suffers a financial loss as a result of work or a treatment carried out by you in connection with your business.

So for example, a client has a reaction to a treatment which did not cause an injury but turns their hair green or discolours their skin and they are unable to work as a result. They may not accept your offer of a refund and may not want you to rectify the damage. Instead, they may make a claim against you for their lost earnings. If the client’s loss of earnings was a direct result of your professional negligence, this extension will provide cover for you.

The standard limit under the policy is £10,000 but can be increased to £50,000 for an additional premium. There is a £1,000 excess (or 10% of the claim, whichever is greater) in respect of this cover.

Employers Liability

Employers Liability

Employers liability insurance is a legal requirement if you employ staff. It protects you against claims from employees who suffer an illness or injury at work and decide to seek compensation from you.

Money Cover

Money Cover

Cover is available for loss of your business money up to £500 whilst anywhere in the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man (excluding theft from unattended vehicles).

You will also have cover for compensation in the event of bodily injury caused by robbery, theft or attempted theft. Please refer to the Policy Wording for full details of this cover.

There is an excess of £25 under this section of the policy. If you require cover in excess of these limits, please contact us.

“Silver” Package

Cover is available for Tax Protection with a limit of £100,000 in any one period of insurance. You will be covered for Tax and VAT investigations by HM Revenue & Customs and there is an excess of £250 in the event of a Formal Aspect Enquiry.

You will get 24 hour Legal and Tax Advice and a Counselling Assistance Helpline for use by you or your staff. You will also have access to Legal Document Max – a website where you can obtain legal documents for day to day issues.

“Gold” Package

This is a comprehensive legal expenses insurance package providing £100,000 of cover per claim (£1,000,000 in any one period of insurance) for the following:

  1. Employment Disputes
  2. Employment Compensation Awards (£1 million aggregate limit and £1,000 excess)
  3. Tax & VAT Protection (£250 excess)
  4. Property Disputes
  5. Compliance & Regulation – Prosecution Defence

Personal Accident - for hands only

What would you do if you could not use your hands? They are your most important tools and (providing you are aged between 16 and 70) cover is now available for compensation in the event of loss of the hand or fingers or loss of use caused by an accident happening in connection with the business. The maximum payable under this section is £10,000 per person with reduced limits for loss of use of parts of the hand.

Personal Accident - full cover

How would you pay your bills if you had an accident and couldn’t work? This cover provides protection following an accident which prevents you from working and is not limited to hands only. It offers 24 hour cover, worldwide. If you are temporarily disabled, it pays from £50 to £300 per week. In the case of permanent disablement or death, a lump sum of £10,000 to £60,000 is payable.

Individual Personal Accident (& Sickness)Separate Policy

A separate policy is available to provide protection following an accident which prevents you from working. This policy can also be extended to include Sickness cover to provide you with a lump sum or weekly benefit if you are unable to work as a result of an illness.

Stock/Equipment

Stock/Equipment

Cover is available for your stock and business equipment (excluding mobile telephones and computer equipment).

Cover operates on an “All Risks” basis and you will be covered anywhere in the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man including at your premises (excluding theft from unattended vehicles).

Mobile Hairdressing Insurance

Much like our freelance beauty therapist insurance product, we wanted to give our mobile hairdresser customers a specific policy, tailored to their needs. We wanted to ensure that, regardless of whether they were visiting clients, renting a chair in a salon or running a hairdressing business from their own home, that they had the cover they needed, at a price that worked for them. Our mobile hairdressing insurance was the culmination of all of this effort, bringing together the core principles that made our salon insurance and beauty insurance products such a success.
